On 20 December, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) confirmed that production from Sharara, al-Feel, Hamada and Wafa oil fields had been shut down by Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG), and declared force majeure on exports of crude from the ports of Mellitah and Zawiyya. It estimated this will result in a loss of over 300,000bpd, with operations at Zawiyya refinery expected to halted within days. The NOC stressed that the loss of gas from Wafa field is significant as this cannot be recovered.
