On 22 February, the Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy, Jeremy Berndt met with senior representatives of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in al-Rajma. The highest ranking Libyan representatives were Khairi al-Tamimi, Director of the Office of the Commander in Chief, and Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the LNA Ground Forces (and son of LNA commander Khalifa Haftar). Berndt emphasized that ‘the United States will continue to engage parties in all regions of Libya to support efforts to promote enduring peace and security, unify the Libyan military, and safeguard Libyan sovereignty’.
