US and UK Embassies condemn clashes in Tripoli

The US and UK embassies to Libya, as well as the UN Special Advisor to the Secretary-General (SASG) Stephanie Williams, issued statements on 17 May condemning the violence in the capital and calling for restraint. They all separately stressed the need for a durable political solution through dialogue and consensus, with the US highlighting the importance of the constitutional talks in Cairo and calling for elections to be held within a ‘realistic but aggressive time frame’.
