On 21 May, the UAE hosted the Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister, Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, and the head of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar, for two separate meetings with the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, at the al-Shati Palace in the Abu Dhabi. Dabaiba and Haftar are reported to have both expressed their condolences for the death of the former head of state, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and congratulated Mohammed bin Zayed for becoming President. On 22 May, the official spokesman for the LNA General Command, Ahmed al-Mismari, denied that Haftar and Dabaiba had met while in the UAE and described it as fake news.
