On 23 October, on the 5th anniversary of the signature of Ceasefire Agreement on 23 October 2020, UNSMIL commended the Libyan parties for their commitment to the Ceasefire Agreement and expressed its appreciation for the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) and its subcommittees for their dedication and commitment to serving the Libyan people. While military unification efforts and meetings are ongoing at the level of the 5+5 JMC, especially ahead of the recently announced AFRICOM Operation Flintlock which will be held in Sirte in 2026, meetings between the Libyan National Army (LNA) top brass and western region commanders are unusual.
