In an interview with Deutsche Welle published on 5 May, the UN Envoy to Sudan Volker Perthes stated that he could say ‘very little about the role of General Haftar’ in Sudan. Perthes stated ‘he is the supporter of one of the two parties, but he has no decisive role in this war.’ Perthes also stressed that he has ‘no concrete evidence to say there are Wagner mercenaries fighting in this war. I can neither confirm nor deny that.’
