On 27 July, local Libyan media reported that the commander of the LNA-aligned 9th Brigade (also known as the Kaniyat militia) Mohammed al-Kani was killed in a raid on his residence in Benghazi. Reports stated that al-Kani was killed during an arrest operation related to charges filed against him by civil and military prosecutors for crimes committed during the War on Tripoli in 2019-20 and earlier. In addition to the raid on al-Kani’s residence, a number of his associates were reported to have been arrested in Benghazi, Ajdabiya and Tubruq.
