On 7 January, the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections (CCMCE) reported that an unnamed military force had prevented municipal elections from taking place in Zillah (630 km southwest of Tripoli). The Government of National Unity (GNU) Interior and Local Government Ministries reportedly opened an investigation into the incident. Local media reported that 1,496 residents had registered for the Zillah municipal elections to select a new municipal council.
