On 12 May, Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) said Libya’s Internal Security Agency (ISA) in Benghazi ‘abducted’ rights activist Khaled al-Marghani over his ‘criticism of the kidnappings in eastern Libya’ through social media. According to the watchdog, al-Marghani was kidnapped from Benghazi on 1 May, and his family has since lost contact with him. In its statement, LCW ‘strongly condemned the arbitrary kidnappings and arrests of civil society activists and holds the authorities in eastern Libya fully accountable’, demanding that the authorities reveal the activist’s whereabouts and release him.
