Throughout the week, UN Special Representative to the Secretary-General (SRSG) on Libya Hanna Tetteh and Deputy SRSG Stephanie Koury met with several Libyan stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen and build upon the fragile truce and prevent further fighting. They met with a group of notables, community leaders and mediators from the western region, with community members, council members and civil society representatives in Souq al-Jumaa, and with Libyan political party members. They also held mediation talks in Zawiyya with representatives from the city, the western region, and Nafusa Mountain towns (Yefren, Nalut, Wazzin, Kabaw). Concerns about military build-ups, human rights abuses, and mechanisms to monitor the ceasefire were discussed.
On 28 May, the Russian ambassador to Libya Aydar Aganin met with Turkish ambassador Guven Begic to discuss recent events in Tripoli and the current situation in Libya. The same day, Aganin met with Libyan Army Chief of Staff Muhammed al-Haddad to discuss the security situation in western Libya and measures for de-escalation.
On 2 June, EU ambassador Nicola Orlando met separately with two delegations, one from Souq al Jumaa and one from Misrata.
On 2 and 3 June, reports indicate there were at least five Turkish Air Force military cargo flights to western Libya, likely to al-Watiya airbase and/or Mitiga airport.
On 3 June, there were reports that the head of Turkish Intelligence (MIT), İbrahim Kalın, is due to visit Tripoli imminently in order to mediate an agreement between PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba and Rada, or at the least to dissuade them from a military escalation in the coming days.
