After last week’s violence, a number of embassies, including the Italian, British and Spanish, have reduced their staff in Tripoli, including in Palm City. On 23 May, Egypt repatriated 71 citizens from Libya. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated this followed presidential directives to ensure the safety of Egyptians in Libya and facilitate the return of those wanting to come home. The National Committee on Libya covered all expenses. The operations room and embassy in Tripoli will continue to monitor and support Egyptian citizens, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to its citizens abroad.
