On 27 August, the UN along with several other international states including the US, UK, France, and Italy issued statements expressing concerns over the clashes and calling for the cessation of fighting and dialogue between Libyan actors. US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, released a statement condemning the violence, declaring the political stalemate in Libya had endured for too long and calling upon the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High State Council (HSC) to facilitate a pathway to elections. Norland also called upon international actors to assist in stopping the fighting.
