On 25 January, the GNU’s Minister for Health, Ali al-Zanati, was arrested at Mitiga International Airport by the Special Deterrence Force (Rada). A Spokesperson for Rada, Ahmed Bin Salem, confirmed that the arrest warrant for Zanati had been issued by the Attorney General’s Office. The Attorney General’s Office subsequently issued a statement charging Zanati with corruption and ‘financial irregularities and violations’ relating to oxygen production equipment that was paid for in full but never delivered. These charges are reportedly based on an Audit Bureau report. The Attorney General indicated that Zanati had not been compliant with the investigation and was arrested at Mitiga because he was breaking the travel ban which had been placed on him.
