On 8 June, Government of National Stability (GNS) Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Faraj Qaim stated that in the course of the security forces’ operation in the Tubruq area over the past few days, 18 tons of hashish, several kilograms of cocaine, large quantities of heroin, and 1000s of tablets were seized, among other things. There were no wounded on the side of the security forces. He called on the population to report all those involved in illegal trafficking. Qaim also called on the tribes of Cyrenaica not to protect criminals but to expel them. This came two days after the end of the nighttime curfew in the city, which was instigated on 3 June as part of a crackdown on criminal groups and migrants in the eastern border area. However, the population has been asked to stay away from security forces’ areas of operation as they shall continue for the foreseeable future.
