On 4 August, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU, Abdul Hameed Dabaiba met with the ‘Committee for Organising, Absorbing and Integrating Militias into State Institutions’ to discuss integrating ‘supporting forces’ – in other words militias – into state institutions, the military and police.’ The militia integration committee comprises GNU Chief of Staff General Mohamed al-Haddad, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Adel Jumaa, and Major General Mohammed Shaboun, who is to command the GNU Ministry of Defence’s supporting forces. On 5 August, it was reported Dabaiba had sent separate letters to the GNU Ministers of Economy, Higher Education, Youth, and Labour calling for the relevant departments in their ministries to hold meetings with the committee in order to integrate militia members directly into the ministries
