On 4 April, clashes broke out in Tripoli’s Al-Sarim Street between the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA) led by Abdul-Ghani al-Kikli (Ghneiwa) and the Nawasi Brigade. Exchange of gun fire was reported, and a number of vehicles were set alight.The clashes were reportedly triggered by an altercation at a Nawasi Brigade checkpoint, when two SSA operatives were stopped. Clashes broke out and two members of the Nawasi Brigade were killed, prompting further escalation. On 4 April, the SSA released a statement assuring residents of Tripoli that the clashes last night had been exaggerated and were ‘nothing more than a simple dispute between brothers’ which had since been resolved.
