On 22 January, a group of Chadian fighters from the Union of Forces for Democracy and Development (UFDD) – which is affiliated with the Libyan National Army (LNA) – announced their readiness to withdraw from their positions in Sebha and other areas of southern Libya to return to Chad. In a video statement, the mercenaries claimed their withdrawal was part of implementing the signing of the August 2022 Peace Agreement in Doha between the Chadian transitional government and opposition factions. According to the statement, the mercenaries had already informed the Commander of the LNA, Khalifa Haftar, of their intentions to withdraw and had begun moving towards the border.
