On 21 February, Minister of Interior Emad Trabelsi emphasized that all those responsible for last week’s Abu Salim massacre (where at least ten men were murdered in a house in Abu Salim on 17 February) will be held accountable without exception, stressing that one is above the law. Trabelsi said that the Criminal Investigation Office of the Tripoli Security Directorate is conducting the investigation in close cooperation with the Attorney General. The forensic investigations have not yet been completed.

On 24 February, the Office of the Attorney General announced the results of the investigation into the massacre of 17 February, noting that the perpetrators were identified and arrest warrants were issued. The Tripoli Security Directorate was tasked with finding and arresting the perpetrators, but their names were not made public.

On 26 February, Trabelsi announced that he had ordered the Security Forces to arrest the four people who allegedly carried out the Abu Salim killings. Among the names is Osama al-Kikli, a relative of Abdul Ghani al-Kikli (aka Ghinaywa), commander of the Stability Support Agency (SSA).
