The United Nations is sponsoring peace talks in Ghadames this week. These talks are aimed at bringing together a group of serving members of the HoR with a group from those twenty representatives that are boycotting the ruling body (i.e. Islamists and those from Misrata) as well as those that have left the body over recent weeks such as the representatives from Beni Walid. There are no pre-conditions set for these talks although they are based on the premise that the HoR is the only legitimate ruling body. Unsurprisingly Operation Libya Dawn (the coalition of brigades from Misrata and their Islamist allies) has rejected the talks, calling on Libyans to protest outside UNSMIL’s headquarters in Tripoli.
