Over the last fortnight, reports emerged that operatives from the Russian private military contractor (PMC) Wagner Group have withdrawn from their operations rooms in Sokna – in central Libya around 300km south of Sirte – as well as the road linking Dan and Sirte. Military equipment including Panstir air defence systems were reportedly transferred from Sokna. Some reports claimed they headed to Jufra airbase and others to Brak al-Shaati airbase. The reason for the transfers remains unclear and it is unknown for how long the operatives will remain at the bases and whether they have been permanently redeployed.
