On 28 August, an explosion occurred inside a power station in al-Kremiya in southern Tripoli. The power station was severely damaged. It is not clear if the incident was triggered by a technical malfunction or by sabotage.

On 1 September in the very early hours, a number of young people celebrating the anniversary of the al-Fattah (Qadhafi) Revolution at Qasr bin Gashir Island were dispersed by the 111th Brigade with live ammunition.

From the early morning, there were some tensions and skirmishes between the Zintani-led Public Security Force and a local militia near the al-Ghariyan Island (the western end of the Ring Road) and south of it in al-Serraj.

In the late afternoon, some heavy fighting erupted between these militias near al-Ghiran Island and in al-Serraj. Both sides used heavy infantry weapons, including mortars. After a brief pause, the fighting resumed temporarily after nightfall. Some more severe skirmishes took place in Salaheddin and in Abu Salim between local groups and militias of the anti-Rada coalition.
