On 27 August, US Charge d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt and US AFRICOM Commander Michael Langley met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi to ‘discuss the commitment of the United States to strengthen our partnership with Libyans from all parts of the country, as well as U.S. support for Libyan efforts to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty, amidst regional security challenges.’ They also highlighted the importance of preserving Libya’s stability and of deescalation in the context of current tensions, urging all Libyan stakeholders to engage constructively in dialogue, with support from UNSMIL and the international community.
On 29 August, US Charge d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt and US AFRICOM Commander Michael Langley held several meetings in Tripoli including with Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, Presidential Council head Menfi and Chief of Staff Muhammed al-Haddad, sharing the same messages about their meetings.
