Hammad and Saddam Haftar address security cooperation in Sahel tour

On 28 August, Government of National Stability (GNS) Prime Minister Osama Hammad paid an official visit to Nouakchott, Mauritania, where he held talks with the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ahmed Ould Ghazouani, among others

On 30 August, Hammad arrived in N’Djamena, Chad. The following day, he was received by the President of Chad, Mohamed Idriss Déby in the Presidential Palace. They discussed enhancing security cooperation, particularly at the shared borders, and combating illegal migration and organized crime. Déby asked Hammad to express his gratitude to Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar and the General Command of the LNA for the logistical support of his country in securing the common borders and fighting illegal immigration and organized crime in order to protect peace and stability. The two discussed various economic agreements as well as plans to build an international highway from Egypt via Libya to Chad, which Egypt has agreed to finance if Libya also agrees and guarantees the protection of the companies involved.

On 31 August, Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Chief of Staff Ground Forces, was in Niamey, Niger, as his father’s envoy for official talks, where he met with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, President of the ‘National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland’, the military junta of Niger. The main topics discussed were bilateral cooperation and border security.
