On 28 October, the United National Security Council (UNSC) voted unanimously to extend the United Nations Support Mission in Libya’s (UNSMIL) mandate for a year till 31 October 2023. The UNSC claimed the decision reaffirmed its ‘strong commitment to an inclusive Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, facilitated by the United Nations and supported by the international community’ and called upon key stakeholders to agree on a roadmap to presidential and parliamentary elections as quickly as possible. The UNSC also welcomed the recent appointment of the new UN Special Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily.
