On 24 January, the UN Security Council held a briefing on Libya at which a number of figures addressed the council including Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis, Senior Advisor for Special Political Affairs, and Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. Key issues included the need to hold elections as soon as possible, the negative impact the political uncertainty has had on the security situation, and various human rights issues, in particular relating to the treatment of migrants.
