UN Envoy to Libya resigns ahead of UNSC meetings

On 23 November, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and UN Special Envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, had submitted his ‘sudden’ resignation.On 24 November, Kubis briefed the UNSC on the situation in Libya, warning that not holding planned elections could “greatly deteriorate” the situation and lead to further division and conflict. A UN spokesperson later confirmed his resignation but provided no reason.
