On 11 March, the eastern authorities announced the death of two migrants and the rescue of forty others after the vehicle carrying them overturned in the desert southeast of Kufra. In addition, migrant boats trying to reach Europe have been intercepted, including one off Tubruq.
The eastern authorities have also deported several groups of migrants this week, while security officials in Benghazi held a focused meeting to discuss the acceleration of deportation procedures for Sudanese nationals found to be in violation of residency laws.
Meanwhile, IOM Libya has organised several Voluntary Humanitarian Return flights this week. In addition, the IOM Libya Chief of Mission met with the Ambassadors of Niger and Chad. Discussions focused on the need to expand safe and regular migration ensuring continued cooperation including on VHR support for vulnerable migrants.
