Turkey tries to mediate truce between GNU and Rada

On 29 August, Turkish diplomats and senior officers present in Tripoli reportedly started to mediate between the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Special Deterrence Force (Rada).

It seems some sort of agreement may have been reached between the GNU and Rada to hold their final negotiations in Turkey, with Turkey acting as the official guarantor.

The deal also stipulates that Rada will withdraw from Mitiga Airport. Security personnel affiliated with the GNU will take its place, and Turkish forces will be deployed along the contact line between the two groups to ensure stability and prevent potential clashes.

Major General Mustafa Yahya, western member of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee, confirmed that military and security forces in Tripoli have reached a preliminary agreement to ease escalating tensions. He added that the involved parties are still working on a final deal to fully resolve the conflict.

Rada sources stated that they will not hand over their Mitiga base or prisons to the current government. They claim this decision is based on the presence of dangerous terrorists in their prisons whom GNU PM Abdul Hamid Dabaiba and Grand Mufti Sadiq al-Ghariyani are reportedly seeking to release.
