On 28 March, four Libyan intelligence officers were sentenced to 44 years in prison each in Tunisia by the criminal chamber specialized in terrorism cases at the Court of First Instance in Tunis for terrorism-related charges and for planning an assassination.

During the trial, the defendants refuted the accusations, asserting that their presence in Tunisia was for tourism purposes and that they were connected to Libya’s intelligence services. They requested to face trial in Libya, but the court rejected their appeal, referencing confessions from other detainees in Libya and intelligence indicating the group had intentions to carry out further attacks in Tunisia.

Two other Libyan intelligence officers, who are on the run, were also sentenced to 44 years each, but in absentia. Tunisian officials are collaborating with Libya’s Attorney General to facilitate the extradition of the four individuals in custody.
