On 27 April in the early hours, Brigadier General Ali Ramadan al-Rayani, a missile engineering officer in the Libyan Army, was fatally shot as he returned from dawn prayers to his home in Khaled al-Furjan (located in the south of Tripoli) and confronted an armed robbery attempt by three armed assailants. During an exchange of fire, al-Rayani managed to kill two of the attackers and seriously wound the third, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The third assailant died of wounds a couple of hours later in a hospital.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a full investigation into the killing has begun. The bodies of the three perpetrators have been received for forensic examination. PM Abdul Hameed al Dabaiba condemned the crime, describing al-Rayani as a martyr who died while defending his home and family. Dabaiba ordered an urgent, comprehensive inquiry into both the circumstances of the attack and the identities of those responsible. Libyan National Army (LNA) Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar also mourned the victim.

On 27 April, Suleiman Mohammed Boularouk, an officer of the Libyan Intelligence Service, was assassinated. His body, which was found in eastern Janzour, had numerous gunshot wounds.

On 28 April in the evening, Major General Haitham al-Tarhouni survived an assassination attempt when he left his home in Salaheddin in southern Tripoli. Al-Tarhouni is a member of the Military Engineering Department.
