On 8 August, the trial of 56 individuals suspected of being ISIS members began in Misrata. The accused were arrested at the end of 2016 after Sirte was retaken from ISIS by the Government of National Accord (GNA) following the Banyan al-Marsous (BAM) military operation. The defendants are of Syrian, Tunisian, Sudanese, and Libyan nationality. According to local media, having heard lawyer and witness statements, the court set charges against the defendants and will begin hearings on 25 September after registering the case files.
