On 11 September, the Attorney General said that authorities have detained a suspect accused of murdering three members of the 136th Battalion of the Libyan Army. The victims were killed and their bodies burned in an attempt to conceal the crime. The Attorney General’s Office confronted the suspect with substantial evidence, including a confession, and ordered his remand in custody pending further investigation. All three victims were from Misrata.
The suspect had previously escaped from al-Jadida Prison in May. He had been imprisoned after being sentenced to death for a murder he had committed in 2020, the killing of two expatriate workers during a failed vehicle theft.
It was reported that the operations room of the General Security Agency received notification of an attempted robbery. Following the incident, relevant information was collected and a comprehensive investigation ensued, ultimately leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect by police officers. Following his arrest, the suspect was linked to the triple homicide and is now facing renewed legal proceedings.
