On 10 June, the Sudanese Army accused forces loyal to Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar of collaborating with the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in an attack on a border area near the Sudanese-Libyan frontier. The Sudanese Army spokesperson’s office described this as ‘blatant aggression against Sudan, its land, and its people,’ asserting that the direct involvement of Haftar’s forces (specifically the Suboul al-Salam Brigade) constitutes a severe encroachment and an extension of an international and regional conspiracy against Sudan. The army vowed a strong response to defend national sovereignty.

The RSF claimed control of a strategic mountainous area near the Sudanese-Libyan border, previously held by armed groups allied with the Sudanese Army, as part of ongoing operations in the desert near the Libyan-Sudanese-Egyptian border. RSF soldiers circulated videos claiming control of ‘Jabal Kassu’, a shared border area, after dislodging army-aligned forces.

On 11 June, the spokesperson for the Sudanese Armed Forces announced that, as part of its ‘defensive measures’ against aggression, its forces have evacuated the triangle area bordering Sudan, Egypt, and Libya.

Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused a ‘Libyan Salafi militia linked to General Khalifa Haftar’ (referring to Suboul al-Salam) of attacking Sudanese military positions alongside the RSF near the Sudan-Egypt-Libya border. Sudan views this as a dangerous escalation of the ‘Abu Dhabi regime-sponsored external aggression against Sudan’, and a violation of international law. The ministry called for international condemnation and intervention, asserting Sudan’s right to self-defense.

On 11 June, the LNA rejected Sudan’s accusations of interference in border areas, calling them baseless attempts to externalize Sudan’s internal crisis. Libya emphasizes its commitment to securing its borders and managing migration while condemning recent Sudanese military incursions. It asserted its right to respond to any violations, including a recent attack on Libyan patrols. The statement also highlighted the humanitarian impact of Sudan’s conflict, with thousands of refugees seeking shelter in Libya and criticized Sudan’s military for disregarding this crisis. The LNA firmly rejected attempts to involve Libya in the conflict and reaffirmed its commitment to peace efforts, international law, and protecting Libya’s sovereignty against any threats.

On 12 June, the Suboul al-Salam Brigade successfully dismantled a smuggling network operating near the Sudanese and Egyptian borders. The brigade arrested smugglers of various nationalities and seized fuel, weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment. The smugglers intended to provide these goods to armed groups for payment.
