“On 5 April, it was reported that Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander (and heir apparent to his father Khalifa Haftar) Saddam Haftar has issued a decree forming a military committee, headed by Faraj al-Sousaa, to investigate and ascertain the facts surrounding the disappearance of Ibrahim al-Darsi, a Hpuse of Representatives (HoR) member representing Benghazi who disappeared nearly two years ago.

The decision stressed the need to ‘determine the reasons for the delay in the results of the ongoing investigations’ by all law enforcement and judicial authorities, directing that a new investigation be opened into the incident with the assistance of experts and specialized agencies to determine the circumstances of the disappearance. The decision also instructed an investigation into the security shortcomings that accompanied the incident, by identifying the units and security forces that were responsible for securing the city of Benghazi on the date of the incident, and determining all those who failed in their security duties in preparation for referring them to military trial.
