On 10 January, Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar arrived in Cairo on an official invitation from Egypt’s Ministry of Defense, where he was received with full military honours by senior Egyptian officers.

He met with General Abdelmajid Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, to discuss expanding military cooperation, particularly in training, expertise exchange, and broader security coordination. Haftar conveyed Khalifa Haftar’s greetings to President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi and praised Egypt’s influential regional role, underscoring the deep historic ties between the two countries and the importance of continued cooperation for the security and stability of both nations. The LNA delegation included the Chiefs of Staff of the Land Forces, Air Force and of the Navy. Also on the Egyptian side, all the service chiefs participated in the talks.

Among the topics discussed were the role of Turkey in Libya and the situation in Sudan, including the support for the rebel Rapid Support Force (RSF) by the UAE via Kufra and by LNA-affiliated militias. Saddam also participated in the graduation ceremony of new batches of Libyan students sent to study and train at Egyptian military academies.
