Russia looks to reopen Embassy in Tripoli and Consulate in Benghazi

On 5 October, Russian Envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, told the media that Moscow is looking to restore its presence in Libya to what it was prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Bogadanov stated that Russia would reopen the Consulate General in Benghazi (which was closed in 1992). He said that Russia will soon appoint a new ambassador to Libya, adding that Russian diplomats continue to work temporarily from Tunisia but will return to Tripoli soon.
