On 25 November, the Turkish National Security Council, following a meeting chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, released a statement declaring that the international community ‘should oppose actors who are trying to exploit the Libyan election process for their own interests’ later adding, ‘Unilateral actions should be avoided in Libya to ensure the December 24 elections take place in a lawful and peaceful atmosphere.’On 24 November, during the UNSC session on Libya, Russia’s Deputy Representative to the UN Gennady Kuzmin stated that ‘voices calling for the postponement of elections in Libya must be heard.’ While on 26 November, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, is reported to have expressed concern over the exclusion of some political presidential candidate, including Saif al-Islam Qadhafi.
