On 3 February, The Associated Press and the Wall Street Journal claimed that regional officials from Libya, Egypt, and Sudan have stated that the US is looking to increase its efforts to remove the Russian private military company, the Wagner Group, from Libya and Sudan. It is claimed that the US is working with the UAE and Egypt to pressure Libyan military leaders to cease their links with the group. The US is reported to be concerned about Wagner’s potential access to Libyan oil and fuel smuggling networks.
