Renewed tensions and assassinations in Zawiyya and Surman

On 21 November, in the morning, the dead body of an obviously murdered young man was found in the al-Malaha (Salt) Road area about 12 km south of Zawiyya. The man, Muhammed al-Zuweik, was killed with three bullets to the chest by unknown gunmen. In the evening of the same day, demonstrators closed the coastal road in Zawiyya at the al-Qardabiya traffic light with burning tires in protest against the killing of the young man.

On the same day in Surman, Saif al-Din Sahmoud, the principal of a school, was targeted with gunfire by unknown assailants and shot in the head. Sahmoud was taken to a clinic in Tripoli, where he was admitted to intensive care in critical condition. Later in the morning the coastal road was blocked in Surman in the vicinity of the cultural centre in protest against this attack. Later in the evening, the coastal road in Surman was opened, and the traffic returned to normal.

During the night, several of the major militias in Zawiyya mobilized their troops. Later in the night, the road block in Zawiyya was reopened, without any fighting occurring between the militias.

On 22 November, the Surman Education Council organized a street protest demanding that the security services in the region fully assume their responsibilities, arrest the perpetrators and hand them over to the responsible authorities. Later in the morning, the al-Samoud Gate in the eastern outskirts of Zawiyya was blocked by protesters, this time with earth berms.

During the night of 22-23 November, two Black Africans were killed and one Libyan wounded in fighting in Zawiyya between the militias of al-Far and rival groups.

On 23 November, in the evening, the earth berms were removed from the coastal road.

On 24 November, Muhand al-Majouna, a companion of Abdurrahman Milad aka al-Bija, who was killed in August, was assassinated in Zawiyya.
