Renewed fighting in Zawiyya with several deaths and injuries

On 10 October in the early morning, unidentified assailants fatally shot a young man on al-Manqaa Street in southern Zawiyya. He was struck by a barrage of bullets fired from a moving vehicle shortly before dawn. The attackers fled the scene immediately, leaving him dead on the spot. Security sources confirmed that an investigation is underway to uncover the motives and identify those responsible. Local forces secured the area while forensic teams gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.

On the same day in the later afternoon, a pick-up was attacked at al-Qana’a street, east of the center of Zawiyya, by a group of armed men in three pick-ups. They sprayed it with gunfire, hitting the driver in the head. The seriously wounded driver was Muaz Bin Rajab, a cousin of Mahmoud Bin Rajab, the commander of the 52nd Infantry Brigade. Muaz Bin Rajab later died from his wounds in a hospital. [O-C3] The attackers belonged to the al-Jirnat, a militia affiliated with Muhammed Bahroun aka al-Far.

Afterwards, both sides mobilized troops and rushed them to the scene. Severe fighting with heavy infantry weapons continued for the next couple of hours at al-Qana’a street and downtown.

On 11 October, Zawiyya residents called on PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba to intervene immediately to stop the ongoing chaos in the city. In the late afternoon, a number of vehicles from Muammar al-Dhawi’s 55th Wershefana Infantry Battalion deployed on the Coastal Road next to km 27 Bridge and blocked it temporarily. The troops were searching for some wanted individuals.

On 13 October, a young boy was killed, and his little brother and several other civilians were injured when two 23 mm shells struck al-Shurafa neighborhood in northern Zawiyya. It is not clear who is responsible for the probably random shooting.

The same day, an African migrant was killed and a woman was injured in an armed robbery at a residence for migrants on al-Fassi Road in Zawiyya.
