On 21 March, Diaa Qaliya, a prominent militia leader in Al-Ajaylat (just west of Sabratha), was assassinated near his residence shortly before the evening prayer. Unknown assailants, driving a black SUV, opened fire on Qaliya and his companion near the Al-Rayah Al-Bayda Clinic in the city centre, resulting in Qaliya’s death and leaving his companion critically wounded. Allegedly, Othman al-Lahab, the commander of the Libya Army’s 103rd (Zawiya) Infantry Brigade (aka al-Sila’a Brigade) is behind the assassination.
