On 22 – 24 July, the commander of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI, Admiral Valentino Rinaldi, visited Libya for the first time accompanied by a EU delegation, and met with Libyan officials including the Attorney General and Government of National Unity (GNU) ministers. Key discussions focused on enforcing the UN arms embargo, combating oil smuggling, and tackling human trafficking. They agreed to step up cooperation through better information exchange, training, and capacity-building of maritime authorities—strengthening maritime security in the central Mediterranean for the benefit of Libya, the EU, and the wider region.
