Norland and Saddam Haftar discuss regional stability

On 24 November, US Special Envoy Richard Norland and Charge d’Affairs Jeremy Berndt visited Sebha, meeting with Libyan National Army (LNA) Ground Forces Chief of Staff Saddam Haftar and other senior security officials. They discussed the critical role southern Libya plays in regional stability, as well as the importance of safe guarding Libya’s sovereignty and overcoming its divisions. Norland commented on the ‘incredible pro gress made by Libyan authorities in modernizing Sebha’s International Airport, making travel more accessible for Libyans from the southern region.’ He noted that through the U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability, the United States contributed $1.2 million to support this effort.
