On 20 September, Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Michael Langley visited Tripoli together with US Special Envoy Richard Norland and USAID Country Representative John Cardenas, meeting Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba and Presidential Council head Muhammad al-Menfi to discuss US support for the disaster efforts. During a conversation with Government of National Unity (GNU) Chief of Staff Muhammed al-Haddad, Langley emphasized that military reunification is essential to ensure peace and stability. There was further discussion of how US forces could provide concrete support to the joint – West and East – Libyan military effort.
