On 11 April, Italy’s Minister of Interior (MoI) Matteo Piantedosi organized a quadripartite meeting with Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria in Naples, Italy, to address irregular migration issues. The meeting brought together MoIs of Italy, Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia as part of an ongoing regional coordination to address common security challenges, most notably combating irregular migration, human trafficking, and cross-border crimes. The discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance cooperation between the four countries through intensified security and in-the-field coordination between relevant national authorities, contributing to regional security and reducing migration-related crimes. The participants emphasized the importance of collaboration between countries of origin, transit countries, and destination countries, as well as the need for exchange of intelligence to track criminal networks involved in illegal migration and human trafficking. The ministers highlighted the need to develop joint mechanisms and share expertise, particularly in combating organized crime and irregular migration.
