On 21 August, a document dated 19 August belonging to the Government of National Unity (GNU) Ministry of Interior (MoI) was leaked detailing correspondence between the Tunisian Interpol and the head of the Arab International Criminal Police that was in turn communicated to the MoI. It claimed that some 100 terrorists were present at al-Watiya Air Base in north-western Libya and were planning to enter Tunisia via the Libya-Tunisia border to undertake terrorism and sabotage. On 23 August, the Minister of Interior, Khaled Mazen, issued a letter to the head of the Interpol Office in order to contact the Tunisian authorities to inform them that the claim was unfounded.
