Meloni and Macron discuss situation in Libya amid concerns over Russia

On 3 June, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanual Macron met in Rome in a summit touted as a ‘reset’ between the two leaders. They reportedly discussed the situation in Libya at length, agreeing on the threat posed by Russia’s presence in the areas controlled by the Libyan National Army (LNA). They reportedly agreed on adopting common approach to the Russian threat in Libya, including creating a permanent monitoring and consultation group with Paris, Rome and other European capitals.
