On 13 February, reports indicated that Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar had ordered the dissolution of the Subul al-Salam battalion and its transformation into the ‘Subul al-Salam Light Infantry Brigade’. The decree provides for the integration into the new brigade of ‘all personnel, vehicles, armaments, equipment, and infrastructure’ previously assigned to the battalion, thus formalizing the organic transfer of men and materials under the new structure. The text does not specify whether the battalion’s current commander, Sheikh Salafi Abdul Rahman Hashim, in office since 2015, will retain command under the new structure.
