On 13 April, the Assistant Secretary-General and Acting Head of United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Raisedon Zenenga, met with Libyan National Army (LNA)-aligned members of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) in Benghazi to discuss their 9 April announcement suspending their participation in the JMC. During the meeting, the 5+5 members expressed their concern about the current political situation as well as unresolved issues that were threatening the work of JMC and the progress that had been made on the security track. Zenenga stressed that differences must be resolved through dialogue and called for members to avoid escalation. He requested that they continue to patriciate in the 5+5 JMC, including providing the necessary support to facilitate the work of the UN ceasefire monitoring unit in Sirte.
