On 25 February, the Supreme Council of Amazigh Libya announced an official holiday on 26 February for all Amazigh cities in the Jabal Nafusa in order to allow them to gather and to go to Tripoli to participate in a demonstration in Martyr’s Square. The council said this should be the beginning of a wave of demonstrations for the rights of the Amazigh and the legitimacy of their official flag.
On 26 February, the announced demonstration took place at Martyr’s Square. In a declaration the Supreme Council of Amazigh Libya called for the dismissal of Minister of Interior Emad Trabelsi and his brother Abdullah Trabelsi aka al-Farawla, the head of the Public Security Agency, as they neither ensured the protection of the Amazigh flag during the recent 17 February celebrations, nor apprehended the perpetrators, although they are well known. The Amazigh stressed the need to arrest all those responsible for the insult to their flag. They must be handed over to the Attorney General immediately. The statement underscored ongoing efforts to incite the Amazigh community and urged the appointment of skilled and capable individuals for security positions. Finally, the Amazigh Council stressed the importance of the Government of National Unity (GNU) promptly addressing their demands.
